Project Overview
Nellions is Kenya’s leading moving company, serving corporate and residential clients across East Africa. For over a decade, the business operated a casual business activity selling moving boxes and packing materials. Sales were handled through phone calls and enquiry forms on the main website.
While functional, the model was slow, labour-intensive, and difficult to scale. It limited revenue growth, introduced operational friction, and produced little usable data for decision-making.
Our mandate was simple:
Build something that converts. Then scale it.
The Challenge
The packing materials unit faced four core constraints:
- Heavy dependence on manual handling
- High risk of errors and lost enquiries
- Limited accessibility for customers who wanted instant purchasing
- Little visibility into customer behaviour, product performance, or growth opportunities
Nellions had strong demand. The system behind it was the bottleneck.
The Strategic Solution
We proposed and led a radical shift: transforming the SBU into a fully independent e-commerce business.
This meant building a standalone platform where customers could browse, order, pay, and arrange delivery with minimal friction — while giving Nellions full visibility into sales, inventory, and customer data.

Our Role & Key Contributions
Kooni delivered the project end-to-end:
- Defined the business case, project scope, success metrics, and growth objectives
- Designed the UX/UI to create a simple, fast, and intuitive shopping experience
- Built the platform from scratch, integrating:
- Secure online payments via Mpesa, card & Paypal
- Real-time inventory management
- Order processing and delivery workflows
- Implemented on-site SEO and product content strategy
- Planned and executed the go-to-market rollout, including launch campaigns and social promotion
We weren’t simply building a website. We created a new revenue engine.

Within six months of launch, Nellions Shop delivered measurable commercial results:
- 6× growth in SBU revenue
- Major reduction in friction across the buying process
- Expanded customer base beyond relocation clients to include DIY movers and storage customers
- Stronger brand positioning as a one-stop relocation partner — products and services in one ecosystem
The shop also introduced consistent, structured data — enabling smarter decisions on pricing, stock, promotions, and cross-selling.
